600 Musicians Are Calling for Israel Boycott in Support of Palestine

The letter:

In solidarity and empathy,

As musicians, we cannot be silent. Today it is essential that we stand with Palestine.

We are calling on our peers to publicly assert their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence, and today silence is not an option.

Silence is not an option as the brutal Israeli bombardment of besieged Gaza claimed more than 245 lives in the last weeks. Silence is not an option as residents of Sheik Jarrah in occupied Jerusalem are continuously forced out of their homes. Silence is not an option as millions of Palestinian refugees are denied their collective right of return.

The Israeli government operates a Settler-Colonial project committed to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population. The legacies of systemic violence, racism and dispossession shaped by colonialism must stop. We call on all governments to stop funding all resources and technologies that back the Israeli state and their war games.

Today, we speak together and demand justice, dignity and the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people and all who are fighting colonial dispossession and violence across the planet.

We call for you to join us with your name in refusing to perform at Israel's complicit cultural institutions, and by standing firm in your support of the Palestinian people and their human right to sovereignty and freedom. We believe this is crucial to one day live in a world without segregation and apartheid.

Free Palestine.

The musicians who signed the letter include Run the Jewels, Questlove, Noname, Rage Against the Machine, and Black Thought of the Roots, Bun B, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Chromeo, Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Majid Jordan, A-Trak, Cypress Hill, Digable Planets, Belly, and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. The statement is led and was organized by Nicolas Jaar and Iraqi-Canadian rapper Narcy.

Israeli police are currently arresting Palestinian children and journalists.

Not content with being an icon of music and film, @DollyParton went the extra mile during this pandemic year https://t.co/bVJstUPTzX — NME (@NME) December 13, 2020 The big news for Dolly Parton this year was, of course, her role as a financial backer of research into a COVID vaccine. Her $1 million donation to Vanderbilt University has contributed to the development of Moderna's vaccine - you can't save 2020 much more than that. Oh, but in case you needed another reason to love Dolly this year, she also spoke up in support of Black Lives Matter, saying, “Of course Black lives matter. Do you think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!” How to even sum up John Boyega's 2020? He's spoken out very publicly about his thoughts on how his role in Star Wars dwindled over the course of the trilogy, but more importantly, he spoke up even louder at a Black Lives Matter demonstration in London, making waves with his passionate speech. Source ONTD, i haven’t seen Bridgerton, but do you think he’d be a good Black Panther? (I had my hopes up for multiverse Killmonger tbh). from Oh No They Didn't! https://ift.tt/3tC0bEW
